The Indian Navy strengthens its capabilities with the commissioning of INS Sahyadri, 3rd of the Shivalik class indigenous stealth frigates, which is scheduled for July 21.
Built at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), under the much delayed three-ship project-17, INS Sahyadri has already sea trials. This is the last of the project-17 warships, the first two being INS Shivalik & INS Satpura. All project-17 ships are named after the hill ranges of India.
The Indian Navy commissioned INS Shivalik in April 2010& INS Satpura in August 2011. With the commissioning of INS Sahyadri project-17 will get completed at a cost of nearly $200 million.
